In the
fall of 2005,
Megram Consulting Services Ltd., a full-service association management company, was asked by the Association of
Canadian Occupational Therapy University Programs (ACOTUP) to assume
responsibility for placing their students out-of-catchment nationally.
A fieldwork
placement service had originally been established by CAOT who
transferred responsibility to the OT Department at the University of
Western Ontario and then to McMaster University prior to the creation of
the National Fieldwork Placement Service (NFPS). NFPS was
established to perform this function for the OT profession and for
others, should it be needed.
Since 2005, NFPS has developed policies and procedures and is
able to deal with an ever-increasing number of applications.
NFPS has a success rate of at least 70 per cent for each
academic year and is determined to see that rate increase over
the coming years.
NFPS is actively seeking new partners in other professions so
that this service can be offered to reduce university staff
workloads while retaining their control over their specific
requirements.
